So many beauty products are packed full of chemicals and nasty ingredients. Have you ever thought what these products are doing to your body? For instance, aluminium in deodorants, and beauty products containing parabens and other nasties such as phthalates. We often don’t stop to think about reading the backs of labels but by limiting our exposure to these can improve our health. Some of the nasty chemicals link to a possible connection between worries such as cancer, so moving towards a more natural beauty routine I feel is the way to go.
There is a really fantastic article on the Breast Cancer UK website about certain chemicals to watch out for. Read the article here if you would like to find out more. The main bad guys to eliminate from your life are Parabens, Phthalates, Triclosan, Synthetic musks, and Formaldehyde. These are all endocrine-disrupting chemicals or carcinogens which may be linked to breast cancer.
The good news is that there are so many great brands out there producing JUST as good products but WITHOUT these nasties in them! I’ve been gradually introducing more natural beauty into my beauty cabinet and I not only love the concept of them but also the branding and the general mindful outcome of them. I have still got quite a way to go with natural beauty as I haven’t assessed my beauty collection to the full and investigated the things I own properly but writing this is definitely encouraging me to have a little sift through my collection! Some brands are only partially natural so watch out for those. I do however believe that even if it is not possible to avoid chemicals completely (you can’t go through life avoiding every hazard), by incorporating more and more natural products into our lives, we can do our best.
So, what can we look out for? Well, quite a lot of great brands actually state on the front comments like “free from parabens” which makes complete sense because why wouldn’t they want to promote it? Some ingredients lists can be quite confusing but I generally try to stick to brands I trust. If not sure, researching the ingredients doesn’t take too much time and can prevent future repurchasing of certain products.
